You’ve seen it in movies, you’ve seen it in pictures, and maybe you’ve been lucky enough to visit the famous cabaret known as the Moulin Rouge – home to the world famous windmill.
But now, an incredible secret room has been unveiled inside the iconic landmark, located in the heart of the popular Montmartre neighborhood of Paris, and will be available to rent on Airbnb.
The windmill – which was first constructed in 1889 as a nod to the site’s rural origins and reconstructed three decades later following a fire – has never before been opened to the public… until now.

According to the list “guests will be treated to a carefully curated evening designed to embrace the grandeur of the illustrious cabaret.”
Not only will the lucky few experience a peek behind the velvet curtains of the fabled landmark during an overnight stay, they will also receive backstage access to the theatre, a traditional French three-course meal, and the best seats during the Moulin Rouge’s acclaimed show Feerie, all for just €1 ($1.49 AUD) a night.
The stay is being ‘hosted’ by lead dancer Claudine Van Den Bergh, who says the experience “will transport guests to the era from which this timeless cabaret emerged.”
Sadly the incredible experience will be reserved for a lucky few, with only three individual one-night stays on offer on June 13, 20 and 27.
Those who manage to nab a ‘ticket’ will likely be transported back in time.
Airbnb worked with 19th century French historian, Jean-Claude Yon, to authentically renovate the windmill into a Belle Époque inspired boudoir, exactly as it would have been during the cabaret era.
“The Belle Époque era was a time when French culture and arts flourished – and no landmark is more iconic to that period than the Moulin Rouge,” Jean-Claude Yon said.
“This secret room inside the cabaret’s famous windmill has been designed to take you on an authentic journey back in time to experience the French capital of arts and pleasures during a moment in history.”
