Mighty Ducks actor Shaun Weiss is getting ready for his return in front of the camera.

The 42-year-old actor told TMZ Tuesday he will be appearing in the upcoming Kelsey Grammer film Jesus Revolution, which documents the story of late hippie preacher Lonnie Frisbee.

The Montvale, New Jersey native told the outlet that a representative from the Lionsgate studio took notice of his two years of sobriety, which lead to a successful audition for the film’s director via Zoom.

Weiss told the outlet he will portray the role of a Vietnam veteran who is battling back from an addiction to drugs, and that the role resonates with his own personal battles, comparing it to a relapse.

The actor, who had his teeth fixed last month, told the outlet he requested his dentist temporarily remove implants he put in to accurately resemble his character.

Weiss last week took to Instagram with a selfie while made up as his character. He captioned the shot: ‘John Erwin & Lions Gate for my first role in… a while,’ with the hashtag, #jesusrevolutionmovie.

Weiss, who played the role of Goldberg in the hockey-themed Disney films, was last seen on the big screen in the 2008 motion picture Drillbit Taylor.

In January, the actor, who had previously used meth, announced that he had been sober for two years with an image of a pair of socks that read, ‘Sober AF Two Years.’

He added, ‘If you or someone you know is in need of treatment – 866.480.2496.’

Weiss also shared comparison shots showing his considerable physical recovery as he ceased using drugs. He was arrested in Marysville, California in January of 2020 in connection with burglary and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

The actor’s friend and advocate Drew Gallagher told People earlier this year that Weiss has been ‘pretty awesome’ following a stint in rehab, as he was residing in a sober home and aiming on getting an apartment ‘when his finances get more stable.’

Gallagher told the outlet that Weiss had been ‘doing standup a couple places’ and that ‘his comedy material is really on point.’

He added, ‘We’re kind of focusing on just trying to get him back out there acting, he’s still as funny as ever. Shaun’s been in the game since he was a kid so he can hop right back on screen no problem.’

Weiss is also hoping to help other people battling drug problems, Gallagher said, as ‘he’s super passionate about helping others and that’s kind of the big thing … we’re working on a book explaining our experiences over the last five, six years .’

Prior to his breakout role in the Mighty Ducks franchise, Weiss was a child actor who appeared on sitcoms such as Pee-wee’s Playhouse, Webster, Charles in Charge and The Cosby Show. He later appeared on shows including The King of Queens, Freaks and Geeks, Boy Meets World and Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
