The latest version of Iran’s Bavar-373 air defense system is designed to be able to counter ballistic missiles. This second version of the Bavar-373 system will soon be produced to equip the Iranian armed forces.
The Iranian Ministry of Defense stated that more details regarding this air defense system will be announced at a later time.
Meanwhile, the current version of the Bavar 373 is capable of fending off cruise missiles and relatively slow fighter aircraft.
The Bavar-373 can also target combat aircraft with a low radar cross-section.
In November 2022, the Iranian Ministry of Defense unveiled the Sayyad 4B, a new solid-fuel missile paired with the Bavar-373 air defense system with a range of 300 km.
The Bavar 373 is an Iranian long-range surface-to-air missile system. The system was first launched in August 2016.
Iran describes it as a competitor to the Russian S-300 missile system. The system is being produced by Iran’s Ministry of Defense in cooperation with local manufacturers and universities.
The Bavar 373 system was officially launched at a ceremony attended by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on August 22, 2019 and declared operational on the same day.
Moreover, an upgraded version of the system has been launched in 2022 and Iran describes it as a competitor to the S-400 and their capabilities are equal. The Bavar 373 system is claimed to be capable of shooting down fifth generation fighters.
The new Bavar-373 will use the Sayyad 4 missile in two rectangular launch containers.
Sayyad is a solid fuel surface-to-air missile (SAM) manufactured by Iran. The tubes containing the Sayyad 4 missiles are transported by 10×10 Jannah trucks.
Iran has made special liquid fuel for missiles as solid fuel, which allows the missiles to be stored for a longer period of time.
The Bavar-373 uses a phased array radar to track aerodynamic targets and ballistic missiles at medium to long ranges. This radar is installed on Zafar Heavy Duty Trucks.
One of the radars used in the Bavar-373 is the Miraj-4, which is a phased array radar with a range of 450 km. Miraj-4 can track up to 200 targets simultaneously.
