Today we wrote about how a Russian Buk-M1-2 missile system was destroyed by an unknown weapon. Another self-propelled launcher with American high-precision ammunition was eliminated.
The Russian Army has lost nearly thirty Buk surface-to-air missile launchers of various modifications since February 24, 2022. For example, the Buk-M2 has been hit recently but is relatively rare.
The above video shows the destruction of a Buk-M1-2 self-propelled air defense system using the M982 Excalibur precision-guided munition. These munitions can be used by 155 caliber howitzers, including the towed M777.
Excalibur is developed by BAE Systems and Raytheon. The projectile can hit targets up to 40 km away with an accuracy of 2 meters. At fiscal year 2022 prices, the M982 precision guided munition costs about $100,000.
