Germany’s Diehl Defense will present its IRIS-T SLM air defense system at the upcoming Paris Air Show in Le Bourget, which is said to have 100% hit Russian targets in the ongoing war.
The technologies of these products are part of Diehl Defense’s core competencies and have been the reason for the company’s success and growth in recent years: The IRIS-T guided missile shown in Paris has been in service with many air forces around the world on a variety of air platforms such as the Tornado and the Eurofighter Gripen, F-16, F-18 and F-5. Recently, the guided missile was successfully launched from the newly developed KF-21 fighter jet. The ground version of the IRIS-T SL is used as a missile in Ground Air Defense Systems (GBAD) such as the IRIS-T SLM for medium ranges.
With the delivery of two combat units, the IRIS-T SLM is part of the ground air defense of Ukraine. According to customer reports, these air defense systems from Diehl Defense achieve a 100% success rate under realistic operating conditions.
Diehl Defense is also in negotiations with its long-time German customer as well as with other countries in Europe about the purchase of these GBAD systems as part of current or near-term procurement projects that are an integral part of the European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI) to protect European airspace.
Diehl Defense also exhibits models of its FCAAM and HYDEF missiles at Le Bourget. FCAAM (Future Combat Air-to-Air Missile) addresses the expected enhanced air combat capabilities as part of the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) project.
