The Hebrew channel Kan announced that the Defense Committee of the German parliament officially approved yesterday, Wednesday, a huge deal with “Israel” to purchase the Israeli “Arrow-3” (or Arrow-3) batteries.
The value of this deal amounted to about 4 billion euros, aiming to arm the German army with “Hetz 3” batteries for ballistic missile defense, in the face of the Russian threat that worsened after the invasion of Ukraine.
Germany also ordered an electronic warfare system from Elbit Systems for the CH 53 GS/GE transport helicopters of the German Air Force.
The contract will be executed over four years and will be another step in the helicopter upgrade program by Airbus.
Arrow 3 or Arrow 3 is the “top layer” of the Israeli missile defense system. The system is used to intercept short, medium and long range missiles at safe altitudes (up to 100 km). The system is also capable of shooting down ballistic targets outside the atmosphere.
Previously, there was information that Germany would pay about 3 billion euros ($3.23 billion) for Arrow-3. According to new information, the deal will be worth 4 billion euros ($4.3 billion). In addition, the contract includes an advance payment of approximately 560 million euros ($600 million).
The Arrow-3 missile defense system is scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2025. In the event of a deal breakout, the advance payment is non-refundable. It will become compensation for the costs that Israel will incur.
