The French Defense Procurement Agency (DGA) has conducted its first-ever test of a hypersonic glide vehicle (HGV) named Véhicule Manœuvrant Expérimental (VMaX).
The test took place on June 26 from the DGA missile test site in Biscaruse, southwestern France. According to the DGA, a missile was used for testing. The missile was carrying a VMaX.
“This first model had many technological innovations on board. Its flight test, over a very challenging long-haul course, posed an unprecedented technical challenge that sets the future for our national hypersonic roadmap,” the DGA announced via press release. She added, “The data collected throughout the test period is ongoing to draw lessons for the rest of the test flights.”
European MBDA, ArianeGroup and the French Aerospace and Defense Research Laboratory (Onera) are participating in the VMaX project.
