Ukraine deploys SAMP/T air defense systems

Ukraine deployed Franco-Italian SAMP/T air defense missile systems to strike Russian targets.

This was announced by French President Emmanuel Macron last Monday.

“I am happy to be able to announce with my Italian counterpart, Giorgia Meloni, that the Franco-Italian SAMP/T is deployed and now operating in Ukraine, protecting key objects and people’s lives,” Macron said during a speech at the Paris Air Show.

This is the first official confirmation of the arrival of this Franco-Italian air defense system in Ukraine.

SAMP/T was developed by the Eurosam consortium consisting of three shareholders (MBDA Italy, MBDA France, Thales). It can destroy aircraft at a distance of 3km to 100km and ballistic missiles at a distance of 3km to 25km.

This air defense system is built on the basis of the Aster 30 solid-fuel anti-aircraft missile. The flight speed of the missile is Mach 4.5 (1400 meters per second). The weight of the warhead is 20 kg, and the starting weight is 450 kg.
